Consultation has concluded

The Hickory Creek Road Phase 2 (West) project is from west of Teasley Lane to Riverpass Road/FM 2499. The project will improve mobility and safety in the area by expanding the existing roadway to include four main lanes, a median, storm drain system, a bridge, and turn lanes. If necessary, there will be room to construct two additional inside lanes (one in each direction) in the future.

In addition to the new roadway, the project includes 4,000 linear feet of storm drain (18-48 inches in diameter). A portion of the 10-foot sidewalk was constructed last summer and is excluded from the scope of this project. The drainage system that will be constructed is designed to provide capacity for the 100-year storm event. In addition, a new bridge will be constructed next to the existing bridge over Fletcher Branch to carry the Eastbound traffic.

  • Elementary School Pedestrian Access Update

    To help provide a temporary walking path on the north side of Hickory Creek Road (across from McNair Elementary), City staff have worked with the contractor to place gravel on the existing footpath for pedestrians to use. The gravel has been placed to produce a more weather resistant walking surface for the pedestrians, particularly the students at McNair Elementary, to use as they walk between Montecito Drive and the existing concrete sidewalk west of Waterside Place. Pedestrians are asked to use this route rather than walk in the street to avoid construction activities.

    Pedestrians are reminded to be aware of nearby construction equipment and other areas that are fenced off for safety.

    City staff has reviewed several safety options and are recommending the installation of temporary concrete barriers along the edge of the existing curb adjacent to the school playground. These barriers will improve safety and help in deflecting vehicles that may inadvertently veer off the road towards the school playground. Staff has requested cost estimates for the barriers and is currently waiting for the contractor to provide them. Staff plans on installing the barriers as soon as possible and will be communicating this plan with Denton ISD officials so that information can be communicated to parents.
    In the long term, as the construction comes to a completion and the road is fully widened, staff will work to design a permanent solution and implement it as a component of the widening project. Staff will continually work with DISD staff to ensure they are fully apprised of these activities.

    Due to inclement weather, the temporary lane closure have been postponed. The updated schedule will be as followed: Weather permitting, Wednesday, Feb. 12 through Friday, Feb. 14, from 8am to 8pm, Hickory Creek Road from Westside Place to Montecito Drive will have temporary lane closures and traffic control flaggers in place.

    Wednesday, Feb. 19 through Friday, Feb. 28, Montecito Drive from Hickory Creek Road to Buena Vista Drive will be temporarily closed to thru traffic.

    Weather permitting, Tuesday, Feb. 4 from 8am to 9pm, Hickory Creek Road from Westside Place to Montecito Drive will have temporary lane closures and traffic control flaggers in place. During this time, crews will be installing a storm drain pipe as part of the active road widening project. Crews expect the installation to be completed, and the lanes reopened on or before the end of day Wednesday, Feb. 5.

    In addition, Monday, Feb. 10 through Monday, Feb. 24, Montecito Drive from Hickory Creek Road to Buena Vista Drive will be temporary closed to thru traffic. This temporary closure will allow crews to safely install a new storm drain pipe. Crews will make necessary accommodations to ensure residents maintain access at all times during construction.

    Signage is posted to alert motorists of the scheduled temporary lane closures and traffic control flaggers. Delays and backups are possible so motorists are reminded to use caution when traveling in the area and seek an alternate route if possible.
