Project Initiation

The future Hickory Creek Trail is identified in the Denton Parks, Recreation, and Trails System Master Plan and Parks and Recreation staff has started the process on selecting a consulting firm. The trail is currently identified to start at Old Alton Bridge, go westbound, cross through Cross Timbers Park, connect to the Future Hickory Creek Bridge, cross through the Burch Farm, and connect to Cole Ranch going northbound, and terminating at US-380. The creation of this trail is estimated to range about 12-16 miles.

The Hickory Creek Trail will provide a scenic and accessible route for people to enjoy and will be a significant enhancement to the City's trail system. The trails around Old Alton Bridge are already a popular destination for hikers. Adding this new section will only add to its appeal. Creating the public trail will allow people to learn more about the area's natural beauty. As people hike or bike along the trail, they can observe the local flora and fauna and appreciate the unique ecosystem in Denton. The trail will be an excellent resource for families, school groups, and anyone who wants to explore the great outdoors.

Be on the lookout for additional information regarding the selection of the consulting firm. This project is anticipated to begin this, summer.
