City of Denton Pet Mayor Contest
Calling all pet parents!
Our 2021-2023 Pet Mayor Elvis has completed his two year term! We are now searching for our next City of Denton Pet Mayor.
Submit your pet and tell us why they should be Denton's next Pet Mayor! Nominate your pet in the City of Denton Pet Mayor contest by submitting a photo and short description of how they represent Denton.
Once you begin your submission(s), you can edit as many times as you like until you click the "Submit Entry" button. Multiple entries from one owner are accepted, however only one entry will be accepted per pet. No entries will be allowed after the entry deadline.
When you are completing your pet description, the following information would be good to include:
- Any unique tricks, traits, or special characteristics;
- Things you and your pet do or places you two visit around Denton; and
- How your pet represents all the animals of Denton.
Contest Guidelines
Eligibility - All community members are eligible to submit entries and vote for other pets by liking or "hearting" their submission(s). Entries and votes must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, June 2, 2023.
Submitting an Entry: To participate in the 2023 City of Denton Pet Mayor Contest, you must register on Discuss Denton. Follow these simple steps to submit an entry for your pet!
- Register to participate on Discuss Denton (Click the "Register" icon in the right column)
- Click "Submit an Idea" on the City of Denton Pet Mayor Contest page
- Add Pet Name in the "Add An Idea"
- Describe why your pet deserves to be elected Pet Mayor
- Add Pet Photo
- Review
- Submit (You will not be able to make changes after you submit your entry)
Voting - To vote for a pet, click the submission and hit the heart button in the bottom left corner to like the photo. You are welcome to leave a comment as well. (Note: Only likes will count towards the number of votes for each entry).
Judging Process/Criteria - Staff from the City of Denton will review all submitted entries and select the winner with the most votes/likes on their contest submission. If two or more entries are tied with the same number of votes, a "run-off" of the top entries will be held. A runoff will consist of the finalists submitting a brief description of their pet top priorities as Pet Mayor of Denton. The winner will be selected by the submission with the most votes.
Finalist Notification - To participate in the City of Denton Pet Mayor Contest, you must register on Discuss Denton. The contact information you use to register will be used to contact you if your pet wins. Register on Discuss Denton.
Awards Presentation - The winner of the City of Denton Pet Mayor Contest will be awarded with a:
- City of Denton Pet Mayor plaque and proclamation;
- Feature on the City of Denton website as the new Pet Mayor;
- Social Media post announcing your pet as the new Pet Mayor; and
- Feature in the City of Denton Resident Update publication.

Gary
If you haven't seen this good boy puppin' around town, you're missing out! Gary has been around Denton since 2017 but has been sprouting up more in the past few years. Starting out being a fun picture to see on the Denton Discord to promoting Pup Crawl events around town for dogs and their owners, Gary has chosen a humble life of making others feel warm and welcome. Recently Gary has gotten a hardworking job at the Bearded Monk, providing good vibes and what we call the "dog tax", which merely involves petting this distinguished gentleman before leaving the premises. Everyone always leaves with a smile, hoping to come back to see him. From adults and children, to dogs and cats, Gary is always looking for a new friend. He has never once shied away from anyone unless they so kindly ask. He only sees good hearts and probably your food if you got some... Vote for Gary. Visit him up at the Bearded Monk. We promise once you see the look in his eyes you'll know he's the right choice. He's a dog for the people, by the people. Gary. Good boy. Great Mayor. Best choice.

Tinker (meow meow meow meow)
Hear ye hear ye, Tinker is running for the pet mayor position! (Here me out on this one…) Almost named Stinker this cat turned his behaviors and actions around to be named Tinker. He is a misfit of sorts (this Tinker Tot he is,) but clings to be understood. He loves these treats called Temptation’s (suiting right?) and is willing to open drawers or closets to get them. This cat I think (well know…) describes much of Denton. He has been through the crazy weather storms, crazy COVID times and still desires to be individualistic in his own way. He makes biscuits too! (Kneads if you don’t know what I mean.) He loves to explore and he is a one of a kind! He has little bunny looking feet (great for the holidays,) and acts sometimes like a prince (he got inspired by Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties.) One of his favorite exercises is moving his head to watch the birds out the window. It’s similar to sheep jumping over the moon. His favorite place to exercise is the gym, the Pokémon gym that is. This cats been loving life to the fullest. He is grateful for everything small to large. He is appreciative. This is who you want for your Denton pet mayor. He’s a very smart and curious fellow. (Which is great in a college town!) Vote Tinker (not Stinker!) as your pet mayor!

Stumpy for Mayor Supreme
My name is Stumpy, I am a reformed stray and current homeowner in Denton. I am the perfect candidate for Mayor, not Pet Mayor. I am smart, handsome and a great cuddler. I vow to bring same day delivery on ALL Amazon orders, ease I-35 traffic, and end car lanes that have to share with bikes. Vote for me and see how great life can be as my adoring subjects!

Margaret Francine Leal- better known as Maggie- was a two time resident of the Linda McNatt Shelter in Denton before being adopted by her Mama & Papa. She has lived in downtown Denton ever since! Her favorite hobbies include walking around the neighborhood & grabbing a pup cup at Cool Beans or a puppuccino at Jupiter House. Maggie is a responsible 7ish year old Border Collie who can sit, shake, high five & speak when asked. She would be proud to serve her city as pet mayor!

Pepper has been a resident of Denton for almost 3 years now and likes exploring the city. When she's not going on walks or playing with her toys, she is enjoying the sun on her balcony and keeping a keen watch on her surroundings. Or napping.

Jefe for Mayor
This big boy was once homeless but the city took him in and cared for him until we made a love connection. Jefe finds the joy in each day and can see the city from many points of view so he cuddles and purrs for everyone equally. Jefe is already the boss in the house so he’s ready to lead from the mayor’s office and give back to the city that showed him love.

Phoebe helps keep our dog parks clean by finding all of the pieces of tennis balls that have been chewed up by the lawnmowers.

BamBam the BullShiht for mayor!
BamBam is an actual BullShiht. Bulldog/Shih Tzu mix and a rescue. He loves riding around Denton with Dad. Never met a stranger. A 65 pound lap dog, who’d be the perfect mayoral candidate for Denton.
