The purpose of this project is to widen Riney Rd to its full roadway width in coordination with the opening of a new DISD elementary school. The Riney Road East Improvement Project will include two segments of concrete roadway. The first segment to be widen consists of approximately 1310 linear feet of street along the frontage of the G. Roland Vela Soccer Complex. The second segment to be widen consists of 270 linear feet along the frontage of two single family residential lots located on Riney Road.


The project will also consist of a 10-foot-wide concrete hike and bike trail. Once constructed, the hike and bike trail will tie the new DISD elementary school property to the City of Denton Northlakes Park trails system. The hike and bike trail will require a prefabricated pedestrian bridge to cross an existing drainage swale and will connect to a concrete sidewalk East of the softball fields.

    The 100% Plan Set has been submitted to the City. The City is in the process of review and will coordinate with the Consultant Engineer for final changes.

    City Staff has completed the process of Right-Of-Way acquisition by working with affected homeowners.

    The City of Denton has initiated the process for a Phase 1 Environmental Assessment be conducted for the two parcel pieces that are planned to be purchased for the Riney Road East Improvement project.

    In a team effort between the Capital Projects, Real Estate and the Engineering Consultant the appraisal reports have been finalized and are being prepared. The final appraisal reports will then be used to provided supporting documentation within the initial offer letters to engage with landowners.

    Consultant Engineer nears on the completion of the Appraisal Reports. Once completed, the affected Landowners will be sent an initial offer letter for the purchase of the property.
