A soil moisture sensor is an add on for your irrigation controller. The sensor will be placed in the ground in a representative area then will connect to your system. When operational your soil moisture sensor will stop your irrigation system from running at the set time if there is already adequate moisture in the soil. Resident is responsible for purchasing the appropriate sensor that is compatible with your irrigation controller. The rebate amount will be credited on the water bill.

Eligibility:

  • All rules must be met for the irrigation evaluation.
  • To qualify for an irrigation sensor, rebate the irrigation evaluation must be completed.
    • If the resident received the irrigation evaluation because of a violation, then the irrigation evaluation requirements must be met prior to receiving a rebate.
  • The applicant is responsible for all aspects of the installation and disposal of the fixtures.
  • The City reserves the right to a post inspection of the installation of any rebated appliance.
  • Once irrigation evaluation is completed, a link for the rebate will be given to the resident.
  • Along with a list of approved products for the rebate and a list of recommended landscapers.
  • An application must be completed with the receipt of the purchase in the application.
  • Once application is submitted it will be reviewed by a staff member.
  • If approved, then the rebate amount will be applied to their water bill as a credit.
  • All rebate installations are subject to final inspection.

Process:

  • After irrigation evaluation the water customer will be sent a link for the soil moisture sensor rebate application.
    • List of qualifying landscapers will be sent for installation.
    • The receipt for the soil moisture sensor will be needed for the application so purchase the controller and then fill out the application.
  • After the purchase and installation is completed, a Denton Water Utility employee will review and approve or deny the application.
    • If denied there will be notes on what needs to be changed. After the changes the water customer may re-submit.
    • Prior to approval the product is subject to staff inspection.
  • After approved the rebate amount will be applied to the customers water account in 30-90days.
