The Street Sign Topper Program is an initiative to create an identity for a neighborhood that would be visualized in the form of a sign topper. The purpose of the program is to establish a set of standard procedures for street sign toppers that would serve as a blueprint for all Denton neighborhoods.

Development Services and Engineering staff are hosting this meeting to give the community an opportunity to participate in a Street Sign Topper work session with Council Member Vicki Byrd and to receive input, ask questions, and provide feedback.




What is a street sign topper?
A street sign topper is a sign that is placed on top of an existing street sign used to represent a significant element of a neighborhood, district, addition, or subdivision.

What is the purpose of a street sign topper?
The general purpose of a neighborhood street sign topper is to cultivate an awareness of the neighborhood's diversity, history, culture and/or character to foster pride and encourage a sense of belonging.

  • Historic Denton Created the Concepts for the Sign Toppers

    Historic Denton Inc. recently presented two designs for street sign toppers to the Southeast Denton Neighborhood meeting on Monday. The Artists Enclave of Denton County created both designs, and Historic Denton members agreed that they will first focus on Southeast Denton with the toppers.

    Historic Denton created the concepts for the sign toppers, and is working to base the sign toppers on neighborhood history. Randy Hunt, a key player in the historical group, said the group hopes to bring sign toppers to multiple Denton neighborhoods.

    Historic Denton Inc. worked with Artists Enclave of Denton County to create two street sign topper designs that were presented to the Southeast Denton Neighborhood association.
