Located at 327 South Wood Street, Carl G. Young Sr. Park is a delightful neighborhood park with a range of amenities for visitors and local residents to enjoy. The park boasts a playground, a basketball court, and park furnishings such as benches, picnic tables, grills, and receptacles.
The park's splashpad, which is the result of a community-driven effort, is a standout feature. In 2014, voters approved the sale of $200,000 in General Obligation Bonds to finance the construction of a small/medium splashpad. The local community also rallied together to raise an additional $10,493.80 through grassroots efforts and an online crowdfunding platform. In 2017, Council approved the purchase and installation of splashpad equipment by Kraftsman Commercial Playgrounds and Water Parks for Phase 1 of the project. During the construction process, there were further requests from the community for the installation of restroom facilities, and staff presented several options to Council. Eventually, the decision was made to take the project in-house, and the splashpad was opened to the public in May 2018.
Looking to the future, the Denton Parks, Recreation, and Trails System Master Plan identifies the need to expand the existing splashpad, and both the community and council have expressed a desire to do so. Staff anticipates beginning Phase 2 of the project this year, and visitors can stay up-to-date on its progress by selecting "Follow Project" on the right. With its impressive array of amenities and community involvement, Carl G. Young Sr. Park is a cherished space for residents and visitors alike.

Share Where will parking be located? A larger splash pad sounds nice but in a more community utilized setting such as south lakes park. I’ve visited this location and it did not seem appealing with many homeless pedestrians using the restroom for recreational drugs. There was not a large parking lot for visitors nor was it in a welcoming area. Most Denton residents drive to hv or flo mo because of the public safety and more amenities. Please consider another location to have a larger splash pad. on FacebookShare Where will parking be located? Sorry for the delay in this response. We have a small lot near the park and the rest of the parking will be on-street. I hope you enjoy the park.
