Chairy Orchard Project
How should we honor the Chairy Orchard? Share your thoughts!
Like all Denton residents, City of Denton Parks and Recreation Department staff were saddened to hear about the closing of the Chairy Orchard. Parks and Recreation staff realized the importance of this Denton landmark and worked quickly to secure some of the most prominent elements of this art piece including the “Very Big Chair,” a sculptural chair archway, love lock display, and other miscellaneous chairs. We have those elements in safekeeping and are trying to determine how best to display these items for the public to enjoy. We are eager to hear your thoughts and suggestions!
We will be receiving public input at our July Jubilee event on July 3 at the Denton Courthouse Square and at a public meeting on July 13 at 6 p.m. in rooms 4 and 5 at the Development Services Building (401 N. Elm).

Install big chair &/or iron arch sculpture at Wolffe Park on Industrial. Love idea of recreating orchard at space where mini mall was.
Install the big chair and/or the iron arch sculpture at Wolffe Park on Industrial. Also love idea of recreating orchard at space where mini mall burned. Afraid chairs placed randomly around town will just be taken or vandalized.

Recreate the Chairy Orchard
We should recreate or reconstruct the Chairy Orchard and protect it, even if it has to move to an alternate location. I suggest designating an area for this recreation/reconstruction by the Civic Center, perhaps among the gardens, to be enjoyed and photographed during our amazing festivals. Another idea is to have slightly oversized chair sculptures, painted by local artists, scattered around the city, in parks, beside roads or in front of local businesses. Art is important here in Denton, and this place was very special to so many people. We should honor the artists who bring joy to this city and make this tribute happen for all to enjoy.

Chairy Orchard in Avondale or Nette Shultz Park
I think a mini Chairy Orchard area in Avondale Park or even Nette Shultz park would be wonderful. It would pay respect to our Chairy Fairies and keep the memory of our neighborhood’s magical little place in the neighborhood near enough for even our amazing Chairy Fairies to see. I think they were surprised to see how much it all meant to all of us here in Idiots Hill. I’d love to see something close enough for the ladies to enjoy seeing.
