Denton Skate Park
Located next to Water Works Parks at 2400 Long Rd., Denton, TX, the Denton Skate Park opened in 2004 as a pioneering facility featuring prefabricated ramps and skate elements. Over the years, community feedback through the Parks, Recreation, and Trails System Master Plan has highlighted the need for a new skate park with standard concrete elements, situated closer to downtown. Staff have been actively seeking funding sources, including grants, to realize this vision. Stay tuned for updates on the project's progress.

Share Hi, I am a citizen of Denton and have been skating at DSP for 6 years. Because public funding was used to build this park, I was wondering if I could get a copy of an itemized receipt from the skatepark construction. I'm confused as to who was consulted for the construction of this park, and how the resources were managed for so little to have been installed. Respectfully, this park has lost practically everything that made it fun and it's caused a lot of people lose out on skating locally. There was a real community surrounding DSP and it's basically nonexistent anymore. Everything from the height and placement of the ramps, to the quality of installation is just not conducive for skating. The quality of this park is far below what $60,000 could have built. Thanks! mkv asked about 2 months agoThank you for reaching out and asking for clarity on the feedback we used to finalize the skate park’s design and construction as well as its cost.
In the spring of 2024, Lockton Companies completed an assessment of the skate park which was built in 2004. One of the foremost concerns was the numerous repairs that the dated equipment was requiring. Due to this, it was determined that the skate park needed to be upgraded rather than continue with repairs.
We began the process to upgrade the skate park by creating a webpage for Denton Skate Works to inform the public we were updating the equipment and asking for feedback. Based on that public feedback, the decision was made to pursue concrete, plaza-style skate components to replace the prefabricated ramps.
We then contracted with SPA Skateparks, a highly reputable skate park contractor, to design and construct the new skate components. The vendor’s proposal was a lump sum proposal and does not include a breakdown of cost per item. The lump sum for the design and construction totaled $71,600.
I hope this helps, Madeleine. I’d be happy to discuss further if you would like. Thank you for reaching out.

Dede asked 8 months agoThank you for the email. Ultimately our plan is to build a new skate park (concrete) and closer to the core of the community. We applied for a grant to build a new skate park in Mack Park earlier this year and unfortunately, the grant was not awarded. We hope this existing park will hold us over until we can get funding to build the new facility.
