Hickory Creek Road Phase 2 (West)

Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Linkedin Email this link

The Hickory Creek Road Phase 2 (West) project is from west of Teasley Lane to Riverpass Road/FM 2499. The project will improve mobility and safety in the area by expanding the existing roadway to include four main lanes, a median, storm drain system, a bridge, and turn lanes. If necessary, there will be room to construct two additional inside lanes (one in each direction) in the future.

In addition to the new roadway, the project includes 4,000 linear feet of storm drain (18-48 inches in diameter). A portion of the 10-foot sidewalk was constructed last summer and is excluded from the scope of this project. The drainage system that will be constructed is designed to provide capacity for the 100-year storm event. In addition, a new bridge will be constructed next to the existing bridge over Fletcher Branch to carry the Eastbound traffic.

Is Hickory Creek Rd really going to be blacktop instead of concrete? Watching crews install more blacktop to level up to the curb yesterday was incredibly disappointing if this is the plan, after months of nothing happening.

Thank you for your inquiry regarding the pavement on the Hickory Creek Phase 2 Project. The Hickory Creek Phase 2 Project is being constructed as designed to have two, 11 foot asphalt lanes (in each direction) comprising a four lane divided roadway.

The residents along Hickory Creek Road are getting tired of the construction project that is dragging on forever. The contractor has not worked on the road since before Thanksgiving. WHEN is work going to begin again? This project has been completely mismanaged from the start. The original completion date was February 2020 printed in city propaganda. Also, why is the the two lane road so narrow? It is built as if it is a 1.5 lane road. The two lanes currently paved are no where close to the width of the two lanes on the east side of Teasley.

Thank you for your inquiry on the Hickory Creek Phase 2 Project. The current completion date for Hickory Creek PH 2 is quarter 2 of 2022. The date had to be pushed out due to utility conflicts found in the field in December. City staff has worked with the contractor to resolve the conflicts to complete construction. The contractor’s crews are back on site working to complete the project. The Hickory Creek Phase 2 Project is being constructed as designed to have two, 11 foot lanes (in each direction) comprising a four lane divided roadway. If you would like a more in-depth view of the Project, please contact me at Dustin.Draper@cityofdenton.com.

If the project was delayed in Dec 21 for utility conflicts, how come no one has been on site for 3 months to resolve the utility issues? How come other portions of the roadway cannot be completed while waiting for the utility rework ? How come a future major Denton roadway connecting Teasley to US377 is being built with subpar construction materials, methods, and sizing? Jagoe moved all their crews to McKinney St. The city underfunded the project.

Hello - What is the expected completion date at this point. I can see that the Q1 2022 estimate will not be realistic any longer. I would also like to call attention to the hazard that prolonged construction is causing for children like mine, that have to cross Hickory Creek to get to McNair Elementary without proper sidewalks, crossings, etc. Thank you for your work to make Denton better and for your reply. When will Hickory Phase 2 be completed? I’ve seen no work in a long time and much still needs to be completed. Thanks for what you do.

I live on Chaucer Drive; I cannot drive in any direction without facing a gauntlet of orange barrels and cones and rough irregular road surfaces. It appears to me that construction crews are under equipped, under manned and under motivated; I notice long periods of inactivity. I wonder if project timelines have not been too generous to the benefit of the construction company and detriment to the safety and convenience of the taxpayer. What is being done to speed these projects toward completion?

I know you said it will be wide enough for two vehicles but no one drives that close to the curb. Why didn't they just make it the same width as the existing roadway ( Montecito to Riverpass) there is plenty of room?

Kevin Boone asked 4 months ago

Thank you for your inquiry regarding lane widths on the Hickory Creek Phase 2 Project. The Hickory Creek Phase 2 Project is being constructed as designed to have two, 11 foot lanes (in each direction) comprising a four lane divided roadway. As shown in the picture below two vehicles will have adequate room without having to drive in the curb line.

Hello, I am curious about this project. It was proposed to have two eastbound and two westbound lanes. But they are obviously too narrow for two vehicles to safely fit next to each other - Has this been addressed?

Caleb B Wills asked 6 months ago

Thank you for your inquiry regarding lane widths on the Hickory Creek Phase 2 Project. The Hickory Creek Phase 2 Project is being constructed as designed to have two, 11 foot lanes (in each direction) comprising a four lane divided roadway. The lanes may appear narrow at this time because the final surface pavement has not yet been laid. Final surface pavement is currently projected to be complete in Q1 of calendar year 2022. The image below shows two regular sized pickup trucks positioned next to each other in two, 11 foot lanes on Hickory Creek.

According to our the City of Denton’s Mobility Plan, Hickory Creek Road will be classified as a primary arterial.
