Joe Skiles Park Improvement Project
The City of Denton Parks and Recreation Department owns a 5.78-acre developed parcel named Joe Skiles Park, located at Stonegate Dr., Denton, TX 76205. The park features a recently installed playground, two tennis courts, three half basketball courts, a multi-purpose field, benches, picnic tables, and a small pavilion. City Council adopted the Parks, Recreation, and Trails System Master Plan on March 1, 2022. The Master Plan provides an analysis of various parks, (includes Joe Skiles) and gives the department guidance in addressing short and long-term goals as funding allows. This agreement is vital in future planning for Parks and Recreation and its mission to serve and meet the community's needs.
The scope of the project improvements will consist of public engagement, design, and construction. The items currently identified as improvements include but are not limited to the following: Loop trail to increase access and connectivity, irrigation to improve turf quality, benches, and landscaping improvements.
Parks and Recreation will schedule public meetings later this spring. Updates and information relating to the project will be updated below. Please subscribe within the icon on the top right of this page to be notified when new updates are uploaded.

Sandburs "Stickers" Sightings
Share Sandburs "Stickers" Sightings on Facebook Share Sandburs "Stickers" Sightings on Twitter Share Sandburs "Stickers" Sightings on Linkedin Email Sandburs "Stickers" Sightings linkHope you've been enjoying the park upgrades lately! We've noticed some lingering sandbur stickers, despite all the work we've put in.
So, what's the deal? Well, turns out, even with all the regrading and new sod, some areas remained untouched leaving sandbur seeds behind and even the areas that were graded still have stickers deep into the soil. But we're on it!
With the new irrigation system and more frequent mowing, hitting them with treatments to stop any new growth, will make it tough for those pesky burs to thrive. While there might still be a few hanging on, we're not giving up. Your patience means a lot as we work to keep our park beautiful and enjoyable for everyone.

Tree Removal
Share Tree Removal on Facebook Share Tree Removal on Twitter Share Tree Removal on Linkedin Email Tree Removal linkParks and Recreation continually assesses the diverse tree species in our city parks. Working closely with our Urban Forester and Arborist, we've identified a Red Oak tree on Stonegate Drive that requires removal.
The tree is a Red Oak with one of three leads dead and is infected with Hypoxylon canker. Removal of just the dead lead will leave the tree structurally imbalanced towards the street. The tree is scheduled for removal this week.

The contractor has initiated grade work, a crucial step in our upgrade process. Anticipate a temporary closure of the soccer field for the next few weeks as we enhance the overall grading for an improved playing surface. Post-grade work, our irrigation contractor will swiftly step in to install brand-new components. This upgrade aims to eliminate those pesky stickers and enhance the ground covers, ensuring a more enjoyable experience for everyone.
We appreciate your understanding during this phase. Your cooperation ensures a smoother and more successful renovation, bringing us closer to a finished product.
