Caring for your yard can be expensive and if your irrigation controller is out of date, inefficient irrigation can add to that expense. The irrigation controller rebate will allow you to receive up to $300 for your purchase of an EPA WaterSense weather or soil moisture-based controller. The irrigation controller rebate is a one-time payment per water account. The rebate is applied after the water customer purchases a qualifying EPA WaterSense irrigation controller.

Program Requirements

  • Applicants must be a City of Denton utilities water customer.
  • Applicants must be the property owner. If the property is leased the owner must give written consent.
  • Your utility account is in good standing.
  • Rebates cannot be retroactively paid for previously completed work.
  • No rebate will be paid on partial installation or completion.
  • Newly built homes within 1 year do not qualify.
  • All installations or projects must meet the individual specifications detailed in this manual.
  • All installations or projects must meet all applicable national, local, and manufacturer standards and specifications.
  • All applicable permits are the responsibility of the applicant to obtain.
  • All application submissions are subject to lawful verification or identification and entitlement to the program credit by the city.
  • A pre- and post-inspection may be required.
  • Applications for payment must be submitted within 30 days of installation or completion.
  • Program funding is restricted to the fiscal year. The City reserves the right to request that applicants downsize the project or divide it into phases for reimbursement.
  • The name on the rebate application should match the name and identification of the utility account.

Rebate Requirements

  • Controller must be from WaterSense® Product Search | US EPA.
  • The irrigation controller must be connected to an underground irrigation system.
  • Irrigation controller rebate is limited to one per water account.
  • The irrigation controller must be installed in the same address on the utility account.
  • Both existing and new homes are eligible for the Irrigation Controller rebate.
  • New homes installed with an irrigation controller from the builder are not eligible for the rebate.
  • Used, leased, or free irrigation controllers are not eligible to for rebates. (Ebay, Craigslist, etc purchase do not qualify).
  • A legible, itemized copy of the sales receipt must accompany the rebate application.
  • Taxes and shipping costs are not eligible for rebate.
  • The photograph of the new, installed irrigation controller must accompany the rebate application.
  • Incomplete applications and those without a copy of the purchase receipt and required photographs will be denied.
  • Denton Water Utility may inspect the site, which will be scheduled before the rebate is issued to the account.
  • Rebates are offered on a first-come, first-served basis and are subject to availability of funds.

Program Steps

  • Qualifying water customers are eligible for a rebate up to $300. Only EPA WaterSense certified controllers are eligible for this rebate.
  • Install the new irrigation controller, check your irrigation system, and take a photo of the installed controller.
  • Apply for the rebate within 30 days of purchase at: City of Denton WaterWise Incentives and Rebates Request.
    • Include a copy of the receipt (must include brand, model, price, and date of purchase).
    • Include the photo of the installed controller. A post inspection may be scheduled for photos by a city staff member.

If approved, the rebate credit for 100% of the cost of the irrigation controller up to $300, will be applied to your utility bill approximately 45 days after your application is received. Denton Water Utilities will notify you if the application fails to meet program requirements.
