A new mural to be painted on the exterior of the MLK Rec Center. Thanks to the generous support of Keep America Beautiful's Martin Luther King Jr. Corridor Community Grant program, Denton Parks and Recreation will be able to hire a skilled muralist to create a mural across two large sections of the MLK Rec Center's exterior facade. The project will be community-led from the start with input from the public informing both the theming and the artistic style of the work. On this page you can track project progress and find out when in-person and virtual meetings will take place to receive public input. Additionally, by using the tools at the bottom of the page you can ask staff questions about the project, or provide your own input directly to us.

In addition to the MLK mural project supported by the KAB grant the American Legion Hall Senior Center is currently developing an art project with several elements that will be implemented by The Art Room, a local nonprofit that provides people with mental health issues a safe and comfortable studio space to create art. Every year The Art Room engages in a community art project that transforms a particular space with meaningful art. The ALH Senior Center is the sight for this year's community project.

The Art Room has worked closely with stakeholders at the ALH center to develop a project that will introduce several new works of art to the Center. These art works will include a quilted mural of a sankofa bird in the Game/Domino Room, a pixelated mural on wood panels of the original building, and a mosaic bench and, if resources and time allow, a mosaic sculpture of the Sankofa egg.
