First Joint Workshop

On August 1, 2023, the City Council, Planning and Zoning Commission, and the Northeast Denton Area Plan Steering Committee held a joint workshop to receive a report, hold a discussion, and give staff direction regarding draft scenarios for the Northeast Denton Area Plan.

The objective of the meeting was to have a collective discussion amongst the City Council , Planning and Zoning Commission and Steering Committee in order to receive consensus as to which one of two scenarios to move forward with - "Business as Usual" or "Balancing Act." Ultimately the direction needs to come from City Council since this Area Plan is being done per their request and City Council provides policy direction for the City.

At the conclusion of the joint workshop, the City Council directed staff to move forward with the Balancing Act scenario. The selected scenario will be used to develop draft recommendations and strategies for the different Area Plan elements, including but not limited to land use, mobility, development patterns, placemaking, green infrastructure, and economic development. Following the drafting of recommendations and strategies, the City will host an Implementation Workshop with City Departments and other partner agencies. In addition, the City will host another series of Community Open Houses and will publish an online survey to receive community input on the draft recommendations and strategies.

For more information on the Business as Usual and Balancing Act scenarios, refer the PowerPoint presentation presented at the joint workshop. A copy of the presentation is saved under Important Documents or you can also access the presentation by clicking on the link below.
