South Lakes Park 1st Work Day

This is the first official workday. Representatives from Parks and Rec will be joining.
• Clear marked trail of privet and brush
• Dispose of cutting
• Cut into trail to continue marking
• Begin blocking current bandit trails with cut brush/privet
• Rake trail line
• Dirt work will be needed in the future, but not at this time
The primary goal is to cut and remove as much as possible in the marked areas. The secondary goal is to continue marking. If you have tools bring them, if not the staff will have a limited number of tools.

Recording volunteer hours are very important for the city. This helps them secure grant money. More money equals more cool projects. The city has set up a tracking system along with signing an e-waiver. It's important that you sign the waiver before your work begins.

South Lakes Park 2nd Work Day

South Lakes Park 3rd Work Day

Come out to South Lakes Park on Saturday, May 27 at 8am-2pm and help build the new mountain bike trail. Bring your gloves, water and work ethic and to help. Over one hundred hours of volunteer work have taken place so far on the trail to remove privet.

Without the assistance of volunteers this trail could not be built. Please consider giving a few hours of your day to help improve our park system.

Meet south of the tennis courts off the gravel road where the storage buildings are located.

This is our third official workday. Here is the game plan for the day:
• Widen corridor
• Dispose of cuttings
• Rake the line
• Cut berms

Tools we will need if you have them:
• Rakes (metal or plastic)
• McLeods
• Mattocks
• Lopper
• Gas weed trimmer with heavy duty blade or weed whip

* Important *
Wear long pants
Wear long sleeves
BRING HEAVY-DUTY GLOVES
The property has mesquite, honey locust, and the rouge bradford pear. All three have nasty thorns, but the bradford pear is satan in tree form, seriously. The thorns are strong enough to penetrate leather gloves.
