Aquatics Master Plan
The City of Denton Parks and Recreation Department manages three outdoor aquatic facilities: the Water Works Park (WWP), Civic Center Pool (CCP), and the Carl Gene Young Sr. Sprayground. The City also shares the Denton Natatorium with the Denton Independent School District (DISD). The Aquatics division operates year-round to support recreational, competitional, and leisure swimming opportunities for the community.
The City of Denton, adopted the Parks, Recreation, and Trails System Master Plan (PRTSMP) in Spring 2022. The PRTSMP identifies several improvements and significant investments needed for the Aquatics division. This project will consist of additional public engagement, needs assessment, conceptual designs, probable cost for the improvements, and several other items culminating to an Aquatics Master Plan that will guide the Aquatics division for the next 10 years.

Share Hi! I would like to know if there is a plan in place to increase shade at Civic Center pool. At the jazz festival, I submitted a sticky note on a board to ask for more shade at the pool. Several other people indicated they also wanted more shade. I believe it was one of the most common requests. I would like to follow up as we plan on returning to the pool this summer and would love it if there is more shade this year. Thanks! on Facebook Share Hi! Peg.T asked about 1 year agoHello, Peg! Thank you for your inquiry. For this fiscal year, we do not have additional shade structures on our list of funded projects for the Civic Center Pool. We do, however, allow guests to bring in their own pop up shade canopies if you can't find seating that has shade available. Our only request is that no stakes are used to anchor down the posts, since those can puncture in-ground irrigation lines and cause issues. We will take note of your request and look for ways to improve offerings at the CCP in the future! Please reach out to our guest service staff if you have additional questions, needs, or feedback on how we can make your experience better: 940-349-8800

Share How do we get more funding for aquatics? Sales tax revenue helps Lewisville maintain and add parks that are far superior to what Denton has. Our city is growing at a faster rate than Lewisville, yet we fall behind on many things - aquatics being the biggest differentiation. The summer heat is also a factor that should make us want to have more water opportunities for our residents. on Facebook Share How do we get more funding for aquatics? Cmshiflett asked almost 2 years agoFunding sources for projects vary depending on multiple factors. The term "Aquatics" can mean something smaller such as a splash park, or it can incorporate a large, multipurpose facility. The type of project generally drives what kind of funding sources are sought. Currently, Aquatic operations and projects are managed with multiple funding sources such as: Annual Operating budget, Capital Maintenance Programs (CMP), Capital Improvement Projects (CIP), Certificates of Obligation (CO's), General Obligation bonds (GO's), Park Development income, grants, and crowd funding efforts through Denton Parks Foundation.
