Bowling Green Park Improvements Project
The City of Denton Parks and Recreation Department owns an 18-acre community park and garden that is home to a playground, picnic tables and benches, a small fruit orchard, and a community garden. In December 2020, Council approved Pacheco Koch Consulting Engineers, Inc to serve as the consultants and will be developing a master plan and redesign for Bowling Green Park. From March to July 2021, the City of Denton and Pacheco Koch designed a final park rendering through public engagement forums with the City Council, Parks Board, Committee of Persons with Disabilities, internal staff, and the local community.
On August 1, 2022, the Parks and Recreation Department submitted a grant application to Texas Parks and Wildlife (TPWD) for the Local Park Grant for improvements at Bowling Green Park. This grant provides funding for 50% of the proposed construction.

This grant provides funding for 50% of the proposed construction.
On January 26, 2023, the TPWD Commission passed funding to award numerous Local Park Grants statewide. The Parks and Recreation department (PARD) is excited to announce that Bowling Green Park received a grant of $598,532. The 18-acre community park currently has a community garden, playground, picnic tables, benches, and a small fruit orchard. In January 2021, the park underwent an extensive master plan process with the community. Council approved the master plan on August 2, 2021, which featured an enhanced community garden that meets ADA accessibility standards, the addition of parking, a pedestrian bridge, and extensions of trails to provide connections to the surrounding neighborhoods and city facilities. In addition, the project will include a pavilion, benches, and landscaping improvements throughout the park.
Parks and Recreation will start the grant process with TPWD this summer and does not anticipate the Notice to Proceed from TPWD until Winter 2023/2024. With this timeline, construction is estimated to begin Summer of 2024.

From March to July 2021, the City of Denton and Pacheco Koch engaged and held multiple public meetings with the City Council, Parks Board, Committee of Persons with Disabilities, internal staff, and the local community. Ultimately leading to the adoption of the master plan for Bowling Green that the City Council approved on September 21, 2021.
The cost estimate for the reconstruction and enhancement of Bowling Green Park is $1,197,064.00. The new park master plan will feature:
- New ADA community garden with raised beds.
- Increase trail connectivity to the surrounding neighborhood by providing a loop trail within the park and expanding sidewalks towards Windsor Dr.
- Adding a trail along the south side of Windsor Dr. which will provide connection from Bowling Green Park to the North Lakes Recreation Center.
- Enhanced landscaping, addition of trees & fruit trees, and park furnishings.
- Addition of a parking lot
- Habitat Restoration

Construction Documents Deliverables & Funding
Bowling Green Park Improvements Project is currently at this stageStep 5 of the Master Plan process includes the following items to be conducted by the Project & Consulting team which complete the creation of the construction documents depending on the initial scope (30% or 100%). Additional this step held identify the funding sources and if applicable go through an official grant process.
- Consultant to deliver the final creation of the agreed-upon set of construction documents.
- Approval of construction plans from the City of Denton Development Services Team.
- Identify funding mechanisms: park dedication/development funds, grants, operating account, etc.

Construction & Grand Opening
