Hickory Creek Road Phase 3 Project

QUICK update - We don't have an exact date when we will RESTART Hickory Creek Road/Bridge Phase 3 but we are continually making progress on the remaining items. For example - you may have noticed work in the area (such as new and removed utility poles). You will also see Atmos gas coming thru with a new line on the east side of the new bridge. Although the new road/bridge work won't be able to start by the close of this year, it's promising to kick off in the early new year. Stay tuned to this page for updates on the actual start date as well as ongoing updates through construction.

Thank you all for your patience! I'm the new Project Manager as of August and I know you have been waiting for this project to start and I know it's been a challenge for you. We are actively working behind the scenes to start the project back up. No one intended for this delay. Contractors and Inspectors are happiest in the field and I LOVE getting projects across the finish line. Stay tuned for updates. We're trying get started as soon as possible.

The Hickory Creek Road Phase 3 project is currently experiencing a delay in construction due to rail road coordination and the ONCOR distribution line relocation. Over the last month and a half the project area has experienced an abnormally large amount of rain events. This has delayed ONCOR from being able to relocate the distribution line as most areas of the project have been inaccessible due to the rain. ONCOR crews are currently on emergency response with the storms over the last few weeks as well. As soon as the ONCOR crews are off of emergency response the relocation will begin. City of Denton staff is also coordinating with the railroad to get the project on track. Please use caution and observe all work zone signs while in the Hickory Creek RD area. The Hickory Creek Road Phase 3 Project's bridge abutments are in the settlement phase of the construction. The bridge abutments (or approaches) require a settlement time before they can be built on to ensure that they do not settle after the road is completed. The ONCOR distribution line relocation is scheduled for completion in May and City staff is continuing coordination with the contractor to address any concerns with the temporary pavement section of the existing Hilltop Road. Please remember to observe all construction warning signs and detour routes as the project progress toward the Q2 2025 estimated completion date.
