In 2018, the City of Denton acquired a 6.5-acre parcel at 6414 Edwards Rd., located at the intersection of Swisher Road and Edwards Road, earmarked for a future park. The overarching vision for this property is to create a vibrant recreational space that caters specifically to the diverse needs and preferences of the local community.

In December 2020, marking a significant milestone, the City of Denton took a decisive step forward by enlisting the expertise of a consultant to develop a comprehensive Master Plan for the Villages of Carmel Property. This marked the commencement of a collaborative process geared towards envisioning the park's potential and strategically shaping its future. Subsequently, from March to July 2021, the City of Denton, working hand-in-hand with the consultant, delved into an intensive phase of coordination and design. This inclusive process integrated public perspectives through multiple engagement forums, involving crucial stakeholders such as the City Council, Parks Board, Committee of Persons with Disabilities, internal staff, and the local community. The culmination of these efforts resulted in a final park rendering that authentically reflects the collective vision and aspirations of those set to benefit from this community space.
