Villages of Carmel Park Construction Project

In 2018, the City of Denton acquired a 6.5-acre parcel at 6414 Edwards Rd., located at the southwest corner of Swisher Road and Edwards Road, earmarked for a future park. The overarching vision for this property is to create a vibrant recreational space that caters specifically to the diverse needs and preferences of the local community.
In December 2020, marking a significant milestone, the City of Denton took a decisive step forward by enlisting the expertise of a consultant to develop a comprehensive Master Plan for the Villages of Carmel Property. This marked the commencement of a collaborative process geared towards envisioning the park's potential and strategically shaping its future. Subsequently, from March to July 2021, the City of Denton, working hand-in-hand with the consultant, delved into an intensive phase of coordination and design. This inclusive process integrated public perspectives through multiple engagement forums, involving crucial stakeholders such as the City Council, Parks Board, Committee of Persons with Disabilities, internal staff, and the local community. The culmination of these efforts resulted in a final park rendering that authentically reflects the collective vision and aspirations of those set to benefit from this community space.

LKnight asked 29 days agoHello and thank you for your question. Unfortunately, a basketball court could not be accommodated in the revised park space due to the site's topography and the thick tree cover at the park.

Hello! Are there any plans to construct climbing boulders similar to the McKenna park project at this park? Do we have an estimate on when construction will begin?
Ghaeger asked over 1 year agoHello,
The boulders that are shown on the design are not similar to McKenna Park. The boulders placed around the playground area depicted in the renders are natural boulders that exist within the property.
The park is estimated to start this summer with the completion coming sometime in 2025. Stay tuned for more information.
Thanks,
Chris Escoto, Park Planning Manager
