Place a few drops of red or blue dye in the tank and wait 15 - 20 minutes. If the dye appears in the bowl, you know your toilet is leaking. This type of leak is most often caused by an issue with your toilet flapper valve, which usually costs between $5-10 to replace, and is readily available at hardware stores.
