Bonnie Brae Street

To accommodate mobility needs, Bonnie Brae Street is being expanded from a two-lane undivided rural roadway to a four-lane divided urban street. This six-phase project has three phases completed (1,2 & 4A), Phase 3 is currently in construction. Below are the project limits and status for each phase.

Sundt Construction was issued a Notice to Proceed on October 16, 2023. The project has a 30 month construction schedule.

Any full or partial lane closures lasting longer than 2 days will be updated on the city street closure report: Weekly Street Closure Report. Message Boards will be updated with any closures and detours will be posted accordingly.

A virtual community meeting was held on Wednesday September 20, 2023, at 6pm. You can view the presentation in the Community Updates tool on your right.

Phase 4A (Roundabout at Scripture | Project Timeline: 2019 - 2020 - COMPLETE

Recently, this section of roadway was re-paved as part of the North South Water Phase 3, 42-inch Water Transmission Main project. Phases 4B & 5 of the Bonnie Brae Roadway Project will provide a 4-lane divided roadway with a raised median and tie into the US380-University Drive Intersection matching the Bonnie Brae Phase 6 alignment.

Project phases are listed for active and/or planned projects.  These phases reflect the range of a project life cycle from project initiation to project completion & close-out.  The year range reflected is for the estimated construction timeline only.   These estimated construction timelines may change due to weather, contractor scheduling, material delays, and/or other factors. Timelines will be updated when needed.  All Bonnie Brae Phases are shown, including COMPLETED Phases in an effort to show the entire Bonnie Brae Corridor.

In addition to completing the construction plan set, completing the Contract Documents are equally important. The Contract Documents help in leading the City and the Contractor through the bidding and construction process.
(PHASE 3) Willowwood at Bonnie Brae to be closed 4/8-4/17/2024*

*UPDATE - Due to the recent rains, the closure has been extended through April 17.

Heads up South Bonnie Brae travelers. Willowwood at Bonnie Brae will be closed on Monday, April 8 for the contractor to begin installation of the sanitary sewer line in that area. Willowwood will re-open upon completion of the installation which is expected to be Thursday, April 11. (weather permitting)
Detour signs will be posted and message boards have been updated.
Revisions to the 100% Plan Set continues at TxDoT.

The Consultant Engineer in charge of designing the Bonnie Brae Phase 6 plan set has submitted to Texas Department of Transportation for final review.

Bonnie Brae Phase 6 is on track to advertise for bid in Q1 2024 pending the completion of the remaining utility relocation agreements. Staff are working with TxDOT to receive the State Letter of Authority required to advertise the project for construction. Construction is anticipated to begin Q1 of 2024. A Community Meeting will be held prior to the start of construction.

Sundt Construction began work on October 16, 2023. All underground work such as duct banks and water/wastewater utilities will be installed before moving into the drainage improvements phase of the project. Enlink Gas also has relocations that will need to be completed in certain areas. Message Boards will be updated in advance of traffic control changes and lane closures will be updated in the Weekly Street Closure Report.
