  • Share Good Morning, The traffic from airport road to the 3 way stop on Bonnie Brae has become atrocious because of the newly added off-ramp from 35W N that tees right in before the stop sign. Is this the final solution for airport road/bonnie brae? When is the bridge going to be expanded to add more lanes? And do you have a timeline for this? Technically, everyone on airport road is supposed to yield to the off-ramp, which does not happen. It takes approximately 25-30 minutes to get from airport road to the frontage road any time between 3 and 6 pm. Are there updated plans somewhere that we can access to understand the city's plan? Good Morning Frustrated Denton Man,

Airport Road/FM 1515 is managed by TxDOT.  TxDOT does have plans for the FM 1515 expansion which also includes the bridge. The online project tracker on TxDOT's website (https://apps3.txdot.gov/apps-cq/project_tracker/) shows construction is still out by several years with an estimated letting date of September 2031, which is most likely to have construction beginning in January 2032. TxDOT shows to open the ramp for westbound Airport Road on December 20th which will hopefully help some of this issue. The current schedule for the traffic signal at Bonnie Brae and Airport Road to be completely installed and activated is March 2026. We are working with our contractor to see if this schedule can be expedited.  In the meantime, I have added some alternative route options as a news feed for BB3 update.    I will be working with TxDOT to see if there are other things we can do to help alleviate the stacking issue during peak times.

Traffic Nightmare asked 11 days ago

    Good Morning Traffic Nightmare,

The new traffic signal is being installed as part of the Bonnie Brae Phase 3 Project and still needs a few steps completed before it can be activated. There is one more signal pole/arm left to install on the southwest corner of the intersection.  The foundation for it is actually being poured today.  Electric service to the signals also needs to be installed and is expected to be complete by the end of January/early February.  Upon activation,  the signals are required to flash for two (2) weeks prior to full operation. Weather permitting, we should have a fully operational traffic signal at Bonnie Brae and Airport Road by March 2026.

    Kind Regards,

    Hello,

Thank you for reaching out.  It sounds like you are concerned with the entrances off of the service road to the Apartment Complex - that would be a question for TxDOT as they are over the I-35 expansion project including the service roads.  They can be reached at 940.387.1414. Neither of the Bonnie Brae projects currently under construction (phases 3 and 6) are affecting Uptown Apartments off Oak Street.

The contactor will continue performing pothole maintenance activities. We ask for the public's patience and understanding as this is a very active construction site.  Please drive safe and according the conditions of the roadway.

On January 27th, Bonnie Brae at Airport Road was fully closed to all traffic. The contractor is working to complete all the underground improvements as well as paving of the section of Bonnie Brae between Airport Road and Main Stadium Drive to ensure this section of roadway can be open and accept traffic from TxDOT's 35E-Merge project which is now also under construction. Weather permitting, paving activities in this section will be complete and re-open to traffic in mid June 2025.

Paving activities for the remainder of south Bonnie Brae including the new alignment will occur in phases and are expected to begin Q3 2025.

Currently, Phase 3 is anticipated to be fully complete in November 2026.

Good Morning.  I have reached out to DCTA who provided the below information:

The stop closures mentioned are due to the construction and closures on Oak and Hickory as part of the DME substation project. The eastbound stops on Oak between I35 and Bonnie Brae have been re-opened as of Friday with the new traffic control phasing, but the westbound Oak stops remain closed until further notice. DCTA updates routes information as we are made aware of it, but we are not aware of the specific end date for the construction in this area at this time.  These closures specifically impact the North Texas (NT 121), Evening Off Campus (EOC196), and Connect 7 routes.

DCTA now provides updated detour maps on our Service Updates webpage as new information comes in and issues rider alerts when buses are delayed. Students may be directed to the Customer Service number (940-243-0077) for assistance.

Bonnie Brae Phase 3 between FM 1515/Airport Road and Roselawn Drive is currently in construction.  We are working on the underground utilities phase now and anticipate paving improvements to begin Q2 2025.   While under construction, the contractor will be performing pothole patching/street maintenance as needed.    Please see the project updates for Phase 3 for additional details.

    Good Morning Sir,

Yes, from Airport Road to Parvin, 10-foot side paths will be installed on each side of the street.  From Parvin to Roselawn, a 10-foot sidepath on the southbound side and a 5- foot sidewalk on the northbound side of the street will be installed.

    Thank you for your inquiry.

Good morning, The section of Bonnie Brae near Vintage in question is actually a Water Utilities project and not part of the roadway Improvements.  The Weekly Street Closure Report shows the project to be closed from August 7 to August 18.
