Westgate Drive Improvement Project
The W. Westgate Drive Improvement Project will reconstruct the street to meet City of Denton residential standards. The project is divided into two phases, with Phase 1 set to begin in mid-June. This phased approach aims to complete a portion of the roadway before the 2025-2026 school year to help reduce traffic congestion during school drop-off and pickup.
Phase 1 includes constructing wet utilities, streetlights, pedestrian improvements, and roadway connectivity from Bronco Way to the existing W. Westgate Drive segment leading to the I-35 access road.
Phase 2 will improve the stretch from Windsor Drive/Westgate Drive to the I-35 access road, and the stretch along Westgate Drive/Windsor Drive, connecting to the Bronco Way intersection. Project scope will also include water, sanitary sewer upgrades, streetlights, pedestrian mobility enhancements, drainage improvements, and full-depth roadway reconstruction.

Based on feedback received at the June 8 City Council Work Session Presentation on the scope of the Westgate Reconstruction Project, staff entered into a professional services agreement with Kimley-Horn and Associates to conduct a traffic study focusing on the general geography of the north/south extents of Westgate Drive including Westgate Drive, Windsor Drive, N. Bonnie Brae Street, and Bronco Way and the east/west portion of Westgate. Once completed, the traffic study will include baseline volumes and volume projections based on future development in the area. Results of this study along with more specific information on options for the proposed scope of the Westgate Reconstruction Project is currently planned to be presented at the August 10 City Council Work Session.
Prior to the August 10 City Council Work Session, staff will provide a resident mailer regarding the status of the project (using the same geographical boundaries we used to invite residents to participate in the May 20 Virtual Community Meeting), continue to provide status updates on this project page, and email residents who registered for the May 20 Virtual Community Meeting regarding project status. Following final direction from the City Council on the scope of the Westgate Reconstruction Project, staff will host an additional community meeting to solicit feedback once the project is at 30% design.
