The W. Westgate Drive Improvement Project will reconstruct the street to meet City of Denton residential standards. The project is divided into two phases, with Phase 1 set to begin in mid-June. This phased approach aims to complete a portion of the roadway before the 2025-2026 school year to help reduce traffic congestion during school drop-off and pickup.

Phase 1 includes constructing wet utilities, streetlights, pedestrian improvements, and roadway connectivity from Bronco Way to the existing W. Westgate Drive segment leading to the I-35 access road.

Phase 2 will improve the stretch from Windsor Drive/Westgate Drive to the I-35 access road, and the stretch along Westgate Drive/Windsor Drive, connecting to the Bronco Way intersection. Project scope will also include water, sanitary sewer upgrades, streetlights, pedestrian mobility enhancements, drainage improvements, and full-depth roadway reconstruction.

Project Timeline: 2021 - 2026

    Phase 1 of this project is currently open for bidding, with the submission deadline set for April 9th. After receiving the bids, the City will conduct a thorough review, select a contractor, and award the contract. Once awarded, a Pre-Construction meeting will be held with the chosen contractor to finalize details and determine the construction start date.

    Right-of-way acquisition continues for Westgate Drive Phase 2 Project. The City must acquire permanent right-of-way, temporary construction easements, drainage and slope easements. Initial offer letters are being prepared by the Consultant Engineer.

    Westgate Drive Phase 2 Improvement Project limits are (1) from Barrow Drive to Windsor Drive.and (2) Windsor Drive from I35 access road to Westgate Drive. City Staff is currently working on right-of-way acquisition.

    City Staff has decided to construct the East/West Westgate Drive as the first phase of construction. The second phase will reconstruct North/South Westgate Drive and Windsor Drive.

    The City of Denton continues forward with the preparation of the Surveyor's Exhibits needed for North/South Westgate Drive and Windsor Drive. The preparation of the Surveyor's Exhibits is the beginning of the process of appraising the required properties.

    City has purchased 0.3 mitigation credit for the upcoming construction project within the recognized wetlands. The wetlands are located on the lowest elevations of the project where a culvert bridge must be constructed.

    The City of Denton has received the authorization letter to move forward with construction activities. The City will mitigate affected wetlands by the purchase of a third of a mitigation credit.

    After receiving the plans in late June, the City is reviewing the 100% Pre-Final Plans for any final changes.

    The City of Denton will hold a Community Meeting on Wednesday, June 12 at 6:00 p.m. regarding the roadway construction of the Westgate Drive Improvement Project. This includes improvements to the East/West Westgate Drive connection to Bronco Way, North/South Westgate Drive and Windsor Drive. The roadway improvements in your area are part of a major goal to permanently connect Bronco Way to the I-35 access road.
