The 2019 Bond Neighborhoods 2 & 6 project is a part of a multi-phase street reconstruction project to rebuild existing streets that have reached the end of their useful life. Maps are provided to left (or bottom) for all streets that will be part of the Neighborhood 2 & 6 project as well as the breakdown of the phases (Packages 1, 2 & 3). Street reconstruction will include new curb and gutter, asphalt/concrete roadways and upgrading select water and/or wastewater facilities. There will be some areas of sidewalk and street lighting replacement and areas of new lighting & sidewalk.

The City of Denton, DCTA, and UNT are coordinating work in/around UNT to minimize impacts to work near special events such as commencements and semester move-ins.     Construction is on-going with Work Packages 1 and 2 (see map). The efforts have been remarkable and progressing on-schedule.     Maple Street:

    Last Week and next week finalizing the last details of Sundt's punch work.

    Crescent (East - Ector to Hillcrest):

    Last Week - Completed the corrections to the curb & gutters & driveway on the south side.

    Next Week - Cleaning up the roadway, pulling back the TCP measures, etc.

    Hillcrest:

    Last Week - Completed the replacement of the curb inlet top.

    Next Week - Stripping and backfilling the area and also cleaning up the roadway, pulling back the Traffic Control devices.

    Thomas (Panhandle to Emery):

    Last Week - Started form work and reinforcement placement for the curb & gutter, starting at Panhandle and working north.

    Next Week - continue form work and start concrete placement (currently scheduled for late in the week).

    Crescent (West- Thomas to Stanley) & Linden (Thomas to Bonnie Brae):

    Last Week - Asphalt completed

    Next Week - Cleaning up the roadway, pulling back the TCP measures, etc.

    Central (Maple to Highland):

    Last Week - Completed the concrete work on the curb & gutter and driveway into the parking lot (east entry) and placed both the second and final asphalt lifts. Saturday morning (8/24/24) we will be restoring vehicular access to the parking garage.

    Next Week - Work will continue with the existing sidewalk/ramp connection at the northeast corner at Maple. Will be cleaning up the roadway, pulling back the Traffic Control devices. Striping scheduled for Friday.

    Welch (Chestnut to Prairie):

    Continue new water infrastructure and next week with chlorination to follow (Chestnut back to Eagle).

    Ave. D & Chestnut:

    Next Tuesday the Water Department will exercise several existing valves on Sycamore to confirm their functionality.

    Friday (8/30) plan on connecting multiple fire services to UNT buildings if chlorination results are confirmed prior.

    Houston Place (Bradley to Thomas):

    Last Week - Lime stabilization continued, and fine grade elevations finalized.

    Monday (8/26) Will place the first lift of asphalt. Concrete activities to follow.

    Houston Place (Marietta to Bradley):

    Utility work demobilized and earthwork began locate activities ahead of asphalt and concrete demolition for next week.

    Ave C (Eagle to Highland):

    Last Week - Concrete removals continued as well as rough grading.

    Next Week - Grading efforts will continue with lime treatment scheduled for the first week of September.

    Bernard Mid-South/Collins (Bernard from Fanin to Greenlee, Collins from Bernard to Ave A):

    Utiltity Work continues moving south on Bernard installing new sewer main and manholes. As work continues south to Greenlee next week, Traffic Control devices will be installed from Greenlee to Lindsay.

    On Collins the sewer installation continued, nearing completion. Work on the new water main will begin next week and continue throughout the next couple weeks.

    Marietta (Scripture to Oak):
    Last Week - Utility Contractor mobilized to this roadway from Houston. Layout and saw cutting for the new sewer main were completed.

    Monday (8/26) Traffic Control devices will be placed on Scripture so a new manhole can be installed, and piping will start at this intersection and move south down the block through the week.

    HAPPY 4th of July Denton!

    Construction crews have been working HARD in this HEAT. They will be observing the 4th of July and returning back to work Monday July 8. That's right, everyone gets a Construction-Free Long Weekend!

    Maple Street:

    Sod installation began earlier this week and will conclude tomorrow. Traffic control measures were removed yesterday.

    We will be cleaning the roadway Monday (7/1) with a sweeper and water truck.

    Tuesday striping and sign installations are scheduled (no road closures required).

    Punch activities will continue through the week.


    Broadway

    We continue watering for the sod that was installed.

    We have completed our internal punch work.


    Crescent (East - Ector to Hillcrest):

    We continue watering for the sod that was installed.

    We are finalizing our internal punch work.


    Hillcrest:

    This past week we placed concrete for the curbs/gutters from Panhandle to Crescent, along with some driveways.

    We will continue over the two weeks to complete remaining concrete scope.


    Thomas (South- Panhandle to Crescent):

    Subgrade preparation for lime mixing has been complete, with lime mixing scheduled for 7/8.


    Crescent (West- Thomas to Stanley):

    Density testing at the sewer main trench backfill was tested this week with passing results.

    Subgrade has been cut in preparation for lime mixing, scheduled for 7/3.


    Linden (Thomas to Bonnie Brae):

    Miscellaneous concrete removals have been completed, and subgrade was cut in preparation for lime mixing, scheduled for 7/3.


    Thomas (North - Emery to Crescent):

    John Burns completed the sewer main, laterals, manholes and backfill on Thomas week. Sundt completed asphalt removals and have begun the miscellaneous concrete removals.

    We will also be addressing the existing water main trench work on this section of road next week as well.

    Concrete removals will complete next week followed by subgrade preparation for lime mixing, scheduled for 7/8.


    Central:

    We completed the removal of an abandoned steel water main as it conflicted with mixing depths, plugging each end with concrete.


    Welch (Eagle to Highland):

    John Burns has been installing the 12" and 8" water main from Eagle to Highland.

    With the main completed, they are falling back to Eagle and will be moving back towards Highland installing fire hydrants, etc.


    Ave. D & Chestnut

    John Burns completed the installation of the sewer main and manholes on Ave D. They have begun installing the new water main starting at Chestnut and working north to Sycamore.

    They will continue installing towards Mulberry next week.

    On Chestnut the sewer main and manholes were completed and backfilled minus the manhole at Ave C, which will be stripped and backfilled within the next working day.

    The water main from the Ave D intersection has begun installation, working uphill towards Ave C, continuing this effort next week.

    Maple Street (south side):
    This week we completed the subgrade drainage and placed concrete for the remaining curb & gutter and sidewalks. We have the ramps at Ave B and the valley gutter scope remaining. We are planning on placing the ramps and valley gutter concrete this week.
    ** Full Road Closure - The second lift of asphalt on the south side is scheduled for Monday June 17, with the final cap from Ave D through Ave C June 18 & 19th.

    Broadway:
    This past week the sod was completed and we started the joint sealant of the concrete.
    This week we will complete the sealant and start the Sundt punch process.

    Crescent (East):
    This past week we completed backfilling of curbs for future sod installation.
    This week we will be placing the second and final lifts of asphalt.

    Hillcrest:
    This past week the fine grading was completed on the entirety of Hillcrest after some rain impact and we asphalt primed the subgrade.
    This week we will be placing the first lift of asphalt followed by mobilization of a concrete crew.

    Crescent (Crescent to Panhandle):
    This past week we completed milling of the asphalt for this section and started miscellaneous concrete removals including curb & gutter and driveways.
    This week we will continue the removals this week followed by excavating subgrade.

    Thomas (Emery to Crescent):
    This past week John Burns continued installing main line and laterals south from Emery.
    This week John Burns will continue installations southward.

    Crescent (West of Thomas) and Linden:
    This past week we completed milling of the asphalt for this section last week.
    This week we will begin the removals this week followed by excavating subgrade.

    Central:
    This past week locates and survey were completed early in the week. We completed the milling of asphalt and miscellaneous concrete removals by the end of the week.
    This week we will begin excavating subgrade.

    Welch (Eagle to Highland):
    This past week traffic control was placed, survey was completed, locates were started adjacent to Eagle, and saw cutting for the new water line was completed up to Highland. John Burns was able to place the first pipe section by the end of the week.
    This week John Burns will continue locates and placing new water main piping.

    Ave. D & Chestnut
    This past week traffic control was placed, survey was completed, saw cutting for the new sewer main completed on both Ave D and Chestnut, locates were started at the intersection and at the Mulberry intersection, and John Burns removed the existing sewer manholes at the intersection. This week John Burns also started trenching and placing new sewer main on Ave D at Mulberry southward.

    We hope you have been safe. Winds and Rains have definitely been an issue for construction - and continues to be! Thank you for your patience and understanding! Below is an update on what has taken place last week and what's planned this week (weather permitting)


    Central:

    LAST Week: Utility Locates were completed. Survey is working on R.O.W. staking and work limits.

    THIS Week: Traffic control measures will be on the road Monday to be utilized for the road shutdown to begin road reconstruction starting with potholing.



    Welch (Eagle to Highland):

    LAST Week: Utility Locates were completed. Survey is working on providing staking.

    THIS Week: Traffic control measures will be on the road Monday to be utilized for the road shutdown to begin utility work.



    Ave. D & Chestnut

    LAST Week: Locates were completed. Survey is working on providing staking.

    THIS Week: Traffic control measures will be on the road Monday to be utilized for the road shutdown to begin utility work Tuesday.



    Maple Street (south side):

    LAST Week: The continuance of concrete curb and gutter formwork, reinforcement install, and concrete placements occurred in limited amounts this week due to weather.

    THIS Week: will the added drainage adjacent to the intersection of Ave B and continue concrete placements for sidewalks.



    Broadway:

    LAST Week: The majority of the sod was installed at BOC adjoining existing residential lawns.

    THIS Week: Plan to complete the sod and start the Sundt punch process.



    Hillcrest:

    LAST Week: The lime mixing process, compaction, and lime depth testing completed with fine grading started.

    THIS Week: Complete the grading and seal the roadway with an emulsion coat prior to Texas Materials placing asphalt Friday into the following week.



    Crescent (Crescent to Panhandle):

    LAST Week: Completed potholing of existing utility crossings at the Back of Curbs. Saw cutting for concrete removals was completed.

    THIS Week: Start the milling of asphalt. After several days of milling, will begin the concrete removal process.



    Thomas (Emery to Crescent):

    LAST Week: Progress made on the sewer main and laterals moving south from Emery.

    THIS Week: Will continue south with both the main and laterals.



    Crescent (West of Thomas) and Linden:

    THIS Week: Will be completing potholing and saw cutting in preparation for milling to follow.

    Maple Street (south side):

    On Going: Concrete curb and gutter formwork, reinforcement install, and concrete placements.


    Broadway:

    Completed: Last week we completed the backfilling of curbs with topsoil.

    On Going: The roadway, curbs and gutters, and lead walks were all swept. Striping and modifying the signage on Broadway at Malone. Sod installation is pending weather impacts.

    Hillcrest:

    Completed: Concrete removals

    On Going: Subgrade grading, Utility clearance confirmation and conflict identification.

    Crescent (Ector to Hillcrest):

    Completed: Survey of curb and gutter & saw cutting the outer edge of asphalt for C&G clearance.

    OnGoing: Curb and gutter formwork with reinforcement.

    Thomas/Crescent/Linden:

    On Going: Installation of the 8" sewer main with new lateral connections working south on Thomas from Cresent. 8" sanitary sewer will terminate near Linden, with remaining laterals following. Efforts will shift north to Thomas/Emery, starting with manholes and bypass pumping.
